The History of The Taverne of Richfield
Located in heart of historic Richfield, Ohio, the famous Taverne of Richfield building has served several purposes since it was built in 1886.

The Taverne of Richfield's original owner, Baxter Wood, was a businessman from Medina, Ohio. The building was first known as the West Richfield Hotel and featured a ballroom on the second floor. The hotel became famous for its glamorous events, excellent food and world renowned wine selection.
After Mr. Wood, the building became a well-known and colorful bordello, but was eventually purchased by the enterprising Mel Rose. Mr. Rose opened an upscale restaurant, the Taverne of Richfield, in the structure. In the late 1990’s, Mr. Rose sold the facility to Dr. and Mrs. Robert Doty and soon after, they leased the building to the Stancato Family to open the Stancato Cafe.
After a complete renovation in late 2007, Dr. and Mrs. Doty reopened the famous landmark as The Taverne of Richfield to commemorate its historic glory and fabulous reputation. Our current owner, Serena Raybould, has had a lot of experience in the fine dining industry (including serving at the Taverne before taking ownership) & can commonly be found in the dining room or lounge talking with our guests or in the kitchen prepping for dinner.
Now a recognized historical site, The Taverne of Richfield features a completely modern kitchen, new furnishings, and a lovely secluded patio. It again boasts a four star menu with superb service & romantic ambiance.
